Today we hosted our brilliant and talented leads, DeLanna Studi and Dani Garcia, our director, Jen Derwingson and our DP, John Orphan in our home for some food and getting to know each other. Our social media guru, Elizabeth Frances was here, too, documenting the even.
What a beautiful day!
We laughed alot. And then got serious about this incredible opportunity we have to make a film that makes a difference. We talked about the theme of miscarriage and how difficult it is for women to feel supported, around this issue. We talked about Native American women in film and what needs to change and how Kiona in our film is portrayal that hasn't really been seen yet. We also talked about our families, our moms, the places we come from and how our paths have led to this place in time, making this film together.
Then we took some videos of everyone talking about what attracted them to Blessed, women in film, in this genre and then we asked who their favorite female lead cop, agent or superhero character is on TV or film, which was fun. We cheered Wonder Woman, Agent Maya from Zero Dark Thirty, Ripley from Aliens, and Sorsha from Willow. One of my favorites came up on that list, too: Debra Morgan on Dexter. So much emotion and badassery!
